What is a Letter of Reprimand?

Hi,

I just had a discussion with my adviser and the dean about a plagiarism case, which I took full responsibility and apologized for. The dean told me that I’ve dodged a bullet in terms of getting in trouble, and that I will only receive a “Letter of Reprimand” which will go on my file.

What is that letter? How much will it affect my chances in College admissions? Is it only my school’s thing?
