What is a nervous breakdown?

<p>When my mother reportedly had one, it was actually termed a psychotic break and she was treated with Thorazine, which she took for many years.</p>

<p>But are there other conditions that fall under this category?</p>

<p>It’s not a medical term, so there is no official definition. When someone says “nervous breakdown” they might be referring to a severe anxiety attack or episode of depression–something that interferes with daily life in a serious way. </p>
