During my search for universities, I have come across several names that have the word “polytechnic” in them. Two such examples are Rensselaer Polytechnic and Worcester Polytechnic. I would just like to know whether polytechnics are different from regular universities in any way such as the degree offered.
Thank you.
The designation is used for colleges that are STEM focused. There is still a wide variety in these types of colleges and universities, so I wouldn’t focus overly much on the use of polytechnic or institute of technology in the name, although it is a signifier of their specialty in that area. They may have other thing they do well.
