According to Pitt’s website, one of the pieces of supplemental information that can be submitted to something called a “statement of academic intent”. What is this exactly?

It is a personal statement with an emphasis on your interest in your chosen school and intended major–why have you chosen it, what experience do you have (if any), what do you hope to achieve, etc. But keep in mind that a statement of academic intent is just one way to present yourself. Other options are to submit an academic resume, a list of extracurriculars, an essay, in a word anything that you feel might aid the commission in getting to know you as a person. Hope this helps.
