<p>It could be that the section involves a much smaller class led by, for example, a graduate student. </p>
<p>While there are no tutorial sections at my school, we do have courses whose enrollment tend to swing from semester to semester on a cyclic basis. Some classes in particular might have 200 people lectures in the fall and only 30-40 people in the spring. Thus in the spring, instead of 1 big lecture, the course is sometimes taught in small discussion sections to foster greater instructor/student interactions. Maybe your school does the same thing or offer classes in a similar format?</p>
