What is AdLab?

What is AdLab? On a May 23, 2008 article in the Boston Business Journal entitled “BU’s AdLab Makes Small Profit, but Great Strides,” the story paints a clear picture as to the way this student-run advertising agency at Boston University: as a business. From account services to creative, production, media and brand planning, AdLab gives the student the hands-on experience he/she needs to succeed in the real world.

In 1975, AdLab’s humble beginnings grew from the ambitious minds of four students who were inspired to serve a single client, all the while the student-run agency consisted of a desk and a broken typewriter stuck out in a corridor. The “founding four” all wanted one thing–to earn hands-on experience creating advertising campaigns for real clients.

Today, over 100 driven AdLabbers strive to achieve advertising superiority for all their clients each semester. As one of the largest agencies in New England, AdLab once enjoyed the distinction of being the only shop exclusively serving non-profit organizations. However, Fall 2002 signaled AdLab’s first experience working with for-profit organizations. From conceptualizing a Web site for Honey Dew Donuts, to creating advertisement billboards for Bertucci and implementing guerrilla marketing for Scion, AdLab offers these clients and many more a clear means for expanding their message of awareness and business strategy and goals, all the while giving AdLab students the chance to achieve their educational potential through intensive work-like opportunities.

So it would seem that AdLab not only gives students the chance to work in real world settings when it comes to creating intriguing ad campaigns for clients in and around the Boston area, but also knowing that they can make mistakes in the process.
