What is an "unclear subject"?

Walt D’s first success as his third Mickey Mouse film, in which Disney produced a cartoon with (sound, and Mickey was made to talk.)

the answer is:
sound and made Mickey talk.

and i choose:

sound, and Mickey was made to talk.

i don’t understand why my answer was an “unclear subject”?

and,What is an “unclear subject”?

thx

hmm… your answer is incorrect because whenever you see “and” you must know that the “items” before and after it should be parallel in structure;as in, the verb was made should be a simple past tense as produced that appeared before “and”, also don’t change voices. if the sentence is in direct voice don’t change it to passive voice. The reason why the CB names your error as “unclear subject” is that the original form of any passive voice is “Mickey was made to talk by (sb/sth)”, but since in the original sentence Walt D was not the subject but an adjective describing success then it is grammatically unclear; although, you are able to recognize the subject. (Grammar doesn’t deal with what you can recognize, it deals with parts of speech) also, since there is a shift in voices then it was likely that the subject might have changed as well. So being consistent of the voice and verb tense makes your sentence clear, hence, correct. :)

is that a full sentence?

yes, he misspelled “was” and wrote it as “as”

thanks for the explanation. have a nice day;))
