I really haven’t heard of this program before? Anyone care to explain?

It’s not a program actually
When a girl or boy is really motivated to study an AP course cirruculum not offered at school/community college/etc and possibly may want take the AP test … they self study the subject by themselves. (i.e. buy the book, prep book, course material and study it) And then they take the AP test by themselves. If they do a really good job, even without a teacher or class, they’ll pull off a 5 and brag to colleges that they were so academically motivated that they pulled off a 5 in an ap test without even a teacher!

How would the colleges know if they even scored a 5? Don’t the scores need to be checked/verified?

Well you you’re supposed to be honest when reporting grades on your application. But if you want to PROVE 100% you got a 5 all by yourself, then you can send an AP report from collegeboard to the college of your choice (cost $$ though). . and you can choose which AP scores are reported

also, for some schools (like mine), ap scores get put on ur transcript

I don’t think self-studying for some AP tests is very impressive (esp. for AP stats). Am I right?

Well many of the other AP tests are. The big ones like Physics C, Bio, Computer Science AB

I think colleges look at self studying for any subject as a sign of motivation, even stat takes some work

But if you took the ap test by yourself, then the score wouldn’t be on it… Only AP classes’s scores would be on your transcript.

Oh so, colleges only go by your word… that you did ap self study?

Do you think taking classes at a community college would be more impressive or doing ap self study?

I’ve heard that colleges may prefer AP courses over community college courses, because AP is standardized across the world, whereas the difficulty of the material in a college class will vary from college to college.

If you took the AP exam, CollegeBoard will send your score to you, and any college that you choose. Obviously you wouldn’t get an in-school grade for the class on your high school transcript, because you didn’t take a class, but the exam score would still show up (some schools include standardized tests on their official transcripts).

I guess colleges would take your word that you self-studied for an exam, but if you claim to self-study AP Bio, and your school offers AP Bio as a class, that will look odd.

“Oh so, colleges only go by your word… that you did ap self study?”

They would probably look at your courses throughout school and see that you didn’t take the class.
