Just got accepted into West Virginia University
I’m a resident from NC so I will be new to WV in general but I’m worried that I won’t make friends and will struggle in college? I’m scared that I will get homesick. Idk I’m worried about a lot of things.

Every freshman worries about those things.

You’ll make friends if you try to… say hi to your dorm neighbors, leave your room door open. Go to welcome week events. Join a few clubs. If you put yourself out there, you’ll find friends. Everyone else’ll be in the same position as you… they’re all alone, in a new scary place, and hoping to make friends too.

Struggling with classes: If you do, there are always places to go get help. I don’t know the specifics of your school, but there should be free tutoring, and you can always go to office hours or form study groups. Even if things are hard, there’s a lot of support.

Homesick: Yeah, probably. Skype is great for keeping in touch, so are normal phone calls. And I’m sure your parents will be missing you even more than you miss them, so remember to call them sometimes and say hi, even if you’re not homesick. :P

It’s like high school except you have some more control over your schedule. You go to school, do some homework, study some, go home. Sometimes the order is different. That’s it.

College is what you make it. As the other poster said you make friends if you try. Say hi to the people in your building and leave your door open. You very well may get homesick, everyone I know has had those moments but if you create a good experience you’ll find that feeling only coming up every once in a while. Like me, don’t get me wrong. I miss my house but I don’t have the urge to go back all the time.

You’ll find yourself with so much free time but no free time all at the same time. Get involved on campus it’ll help you settle in.

Your college career is going to be as fun, productive, boring and pointless as you make it. No one is going to force you to get dressed in the morning or show up to class everything is on you.

It’s not that bad- I’m loving my freshman year despite things that I’ve had a hard time with
