Does being an employee’s kid carry any weight? (of course depending on the position)

A legacy is typically the child or grandchild of a particular school’s alum.

How could an applicant say “yeah, my mom is the registrar” without it looking obvious that said applicant wants some brownie points? If a parent is a professor, admissions will probably know without the applicant pointing it out, though there would be discrete ways of mentioning it.

I think in short, no not really would being an employee’s child carry any weight, although I know at some schools it means free or reduced tuition :-).

does having siblings who attend the school count for anything?

@OP: It makes a considerable difference if your parent/s is a full-time employee. Duke pays 80% of the college tuition for all the children of its full-time employees, no matter which school they attend. Basic economics states that it would be in their best interest to have these funds funneled back into Duke rather than a competing institution. Basically, as long as you’ve got the academic qualifications to be competitive for admission at Duke-caliber schools, I’d say you’re in.

Source: My dad used to be an employee there. If only he still was haha…
