what is dressy attire?

i’m about to go to this restaurant that requires “dressy attire”

what am i expected to wear? dress shirt +tie + dress pants? no jeans?

No jeans or tennis shoes. Restaurants have three dress codes:

1) Coat and tie. If a restaurant requires patrons to wear a coat and tie, it will specify it clearly, either on the website or on the phone when you are making researvations.

2) Dressy: All this means is no shorts, jeans, sandals or tennis shoes.

3) Casual: It’s all good! Obviously, nothing too outrageous or revealing, particularly if it is a “family” restaurant, but shorts and jeans are prefectly fine.

what if its dressy casual?

I would say pants and a sports coat without a tie But obviously with a shirt. And, not a t-shirt.

Dressy casual is the same as dressy. In other words, no need for a suit or tie, but no jeans/shorts or sneakers/tennis shoes either.

In generally, dressy casual would mean:

1)For women:
-Skirt (as long as it is at least knee-length) and pants (no jeans and no capris) with a nice shirt
-A nice dress (again, at least knee-length)
-Nice shoes (open-toed is ok) or sandals
-No tennis shoes, sneakers or flip flops

2) For men:
-bottoned and collared shirt (short or long sleeves)
-A nice jacket (if it is cold)
-Pants (no shorts or jeans)
-Nice shoes (no sneakers, sandals or tennis shoes)
-Tie not needed

Exercise common sense and you should be fine.

Christ, Arnie, it’s black tie. I mean, I said “drop by,” but, like, this is Daddy’s big do.
