What is each UC known for?

What’s each one particularly strong in? Besides science becuase I think they all are strong in science it seems

Like nearly all top-ranked Unis, the UCs are known for research, particularly at the graduate level. Cal has many top-ranked programs in science, literature, and humanities; indeed, many of its grad programs outdo Harvard. UCLA is not far behind Cal – LA’s theater dept is well known. SD is top-ranked for bioengineering, but also has an excellent Linguistics dept. Irvine has a great Comp Lit dept.

Davis is one of the best, if not the top, agriculturally-oriented schools in the country. The viticulture, enology, and pomology depts. are tops. It is very strong in food science, plant and animal genetics, and the Vet school is very highly regarded. The level of research in all of these departments is top-notch. My one complaint about the UC system is that it really does not offer much for students who want to go into things like teaching, nursing, pharmacy, etc–there is the UCSF grad school, but for undergrad, I’ve know lots of students who have had to transfer to state colleges to major in these programs, which is fine, but disruptive. In most of the other states that I have lived in, these degrees are all offered at the flagship universities.
