Are academics or extra curricular leadership more “important”? I see that it isn’t CRAZY selective, so are impressive ECs really that necessary?
I don’t want to hold back, of course, but I’ve been worrying about even getting accepted into BU. However, I hear that around 40-55% of applicants get accepted, so I am just wondering. Thank you!

Bump. Anyone?

Google the most recent common data set for bu. This year only 36% we’re accepted because 50,000 applied. Showing interest counts. Visit, make appointments at various departments that interest you, and fill out the little cards they ask you to fill out. Apply for all of the scholarships they offer and write excellent essays. Everything counts. …scores, gpa, activities, interest.

If you review this thread from last year, there were quite a few candidates who were rejected with really good profiles. I think BU is looking for students who want BU. Not Boston, not “an east coast school”, not an if all else fails choice. I think they smell enthusiasm. Frankly, your post doesn’t sound super enthusiastic.

Im an IB Diploma Candidate, 4.32 w gpa, 3.74 uw gpa, with a 1900 sat, and 400 community service hours. i run track and xc for my school also. if i apply ed, despite my low sat scores is there a good chance i get in? (yes i know another chance me post)srry

I went to an “inside the admissions process” event at BU a few months ago. They are definitely looking at academics over extracurriculars. They want to be sure you can succeed at the university. They also like to see that you have challenged yourself in high school. Yes they want to know why BU specifically is appealing to you because there are an awful lot of schools in Boston, so Boston on its own can’t be your reason to want to go there.
