What is in demand? IT field?

Hello I was looking into some IT fields and was wondering which of these have the higher likelihood of employment after graduating (as entry level).

Computer Support
Information Technologies for Homeland Security
Software Engineering
Systems Analysis

I was interested in homeland security but I read that there are not many jobs for entry level applicants. Computer support seems to be the most basic.

Software Engineering has high demand. I’m not sure what systems analysis is. IT in general has a higher unemployment rate than CS, it is about management and CS is more technical. But limiting IT to only homehand security seems strange. I’m not sure about computer support, it seems possibly less skilled.

@aw4381 All jobs are in high demand but it is about getting your foot in the door. Best way to get your foot in the door is by getting a internship before you get hired for a wage. I know you might be thinking “but i want to get paid…” so does everyone else in the world. Most jobs like to see what you are able to bring to the table before they hire you. If you do not have experience or have a good contact it will be hard to compete with others who do have the experience you need to get hired.

Try interning somewhere you can see yourself grow, get the experience you need and show them you are worth hiring. Hope this helps and always look at the bigger picture. thx

Most IT internships pay. But I agree that you want to try to find internships while you are in college. Like with many fields, a four year degree will open more doors than an AA will. But you can certainly start on the path of some kind of CS or IT job via the CC route, and transfer for the last two years. And EVERY big company has an IT staff, Homeland Security is just a small drop in the ocean of that kind of work. I will say that Information Security is a very hot field, and likely will be for some years to come. Experience is good, but if you study it and try to get some internship experience, and do what you can to get certifications and experience in nearby fields, you can move into that.
