What is it like as a sociology major in college?

Hi, I am currently a junior in high school and I plan to major in sociology. I want to know what it’s like in general (like classes, typically assignments, workload, etc).

It’s known as a relatively easy major, unless you pair it with a statistics minor (you need strong quantitative skills to work on sociology at any level. Good programs will contain several statistics classes, which will make the minor easy to do). You can specialize in specific fields (family, health, organization, education…) For this major, you need a university that’s strong in career placement and/or with a known Honors College and/or a “brand name”.

I’m a sociology major and so far it’s not bad. You can pretty much study anything, health, law, education etc. some schools will have different concentrations/tracks or some will let you pick whichever classes. Depends on the school but there’s lots of opportunities. It’s oftej written off as an “easy major” but some topics are challenging.

Thank you for the replies. Do you recommend any schools with good sociology programs?

What are your stats? Have your parents said how much they can pay from income and savings?

My GPA is 3.9 weighted currently but I haven’t taken the SAT yet (I’m taking it in March). My mom is hoping for some financial aid but I don’t know exactly how much she can pay.

This is how you must proceed:
Type in your web browser ’ net price calculator" + the name of your state flagship; Mount Holyoke college, Bryn mawr (if you’re a girl), Dickinson, Butler, Clark, Northeastern, uCincinnati. you have to do it for each and screen capture the result for each (you’ll see the results will be quite different). The net price you see will be the price of each college after scholarships.
Bring all of them to your mother.then go over what she can afford from income and savings.
(You as a freshman cannot take more than 5.5k in loans)
