Color me cynical. Anything with hair color for a politician is done on purpose. Maybe his handlers decided grey = more distinguished = more presidential?

Wardrobe, hair color, style, etc. are all intentional decisions. I tend to believe Michelle B’s eyes are the result of bad plastic surgery and probably nothing can be done about that.

No matter where you fall on the political spectrum our current media environment favors form over substance.

I think the gray hair is just bad luck…

What a great point. Maybe he is just listening to bad advice. Really, though, as the POTUS he is 100% responsible. No passing the buck (or in this case, the box of Nice N’ Easy).

Not the POTUS’ fault that he has to govern people who are stupid enough to care about trivial stuff like this. That, and the birthers.

Wow. Maybe you are right. However, that is a whole, whole, whole lot of bad, bad luck.

(I would probably be clinging to that box of Nice N’ Easy with every bit of strength I could muster).

Let’s keep this thread on the topic of hair color, going gray, etc. (important musings for many of us empty nesters). No need to bring up politics. Many of us enjoy inane topics as a diversion from our otherwise exciting, dynamic lives. Besides, at our age, who decides to let themselves go gray, and who decides to grab hold of the box of Nice N’ Easy is big news (especially if they are in the public eye). Think of it as an interim period (something that comes before four-pronged walkers and strained peas).

Ok - since we are trying to stay on the topic of gray hair and I think we’ve fully exhausted Obama’s gray hair…what do you all think about women letting their hair go gray? Does it always make them look older or is it dependent on the color of the gray and hairstyle? I have a co-worker who is 52 and has striking silver-white hair cut in a short, almost spikey style and people stop and compliment her all the time on her hair (I’ve witnessed it). She’s trying to let it grow out and I’m undecided if it’s as attractive at a bob length. What about women who let their long hair go gray? My step-mother (mid-50s) has worn her gray hair (more gray than white) very long (mid-back) for a number of years and I think it ages her. Two women, almost the same age - two different reactions to the gray. I can’t decide if it’s the haircut or the color of the gray that makes a difference. My hair’s not gray yet, so I haven’t had to make that decision.

BTW - Vanessa Redgrave had shoulder-length gray hair in Letters to Juliet and I thought she looked fabulous for a woman in her 70s.

The topic of whether or not women should go gray could be it’s own thread, but my two cents is that it really depends on the person and the age. Being of the thrifty sort, it burns me to invest so much in hair magic, but I do it anyway. For most women, the age progression slows down quite a bit when graying is delayed. I do agree that on some women a really refined silver fox look is stunning. I’m not sure I think that the wiry, unkempt, let-it-all-hang-out gray hair thing is very attractive. It’s a good granola, intellectual, or hippie kind of look, though. I guess it’s just a matter of taste and what look you are after. Vanessa Redgrave is wonderful, I agree.

I think whether a woman should go gray or not depends on many different factors from skin complexion (some skin tones look better than others) to shape of face to body type. It can make some look older, but not all. I once had a striking neighbor, slender, nice facial bone structure with very short gray hair who was absolutely stunning. She also had impeccable posture and exuded confidence. But she looked great gray. I could not imagine her looking as good with any other hair color. It just fit her so well.

When I let my hair start going gray my kids start to get really upset so I head back to my colorist. I think gray is cool but my kids (and DH) do not.

They will have to pry the Nice and Easy from my cold, dead hands. Never plan on going gray. ;)
