What is it with Michelle Bachmann's eyes? (not political)

jym - there was another website last week that did the same sort of thing, except with current celebrities.

and

:) She would make a great guest speaker for our Dressing Young thread.

do you have a link, teri?

Yea, but it’s a blog.

Google Female Celebs with Michele Bachmann’s Eyes and you should find it.

Some of those photos were kind creepy, teri!

Thanks for the slideshow link, it gave me my first snort of the day. It needs theme music, though, something along the lines of that early 80s hit “Betty Davis eyes” with appropriate name substitutions.

Hillary’s legs and behind are bigger than the rest of her so she is not proportioned perfectly but overall she’s a tiny thing. Every time I met her she was wearing a pantsuit, the last time in periwinkle – all the way from neck to toe in periwinkle! I remember thinking – you have to have a real sense of self to go forth into the world dressed all in periwinkle!

Regarding Pelosi, I’m not at all thinking she could be our Dressing Young icon, Bunsen. First of all, the botox is so extreme that there is absolutely no mobility in her face. Then the hair. It looks as if it takes a small army to produce - sort of like the face, frozen into place. And the clothes? I know she leans toward expensive Italian designers but the look is always the same - a suit in a pastel-y color and something chunky at the neck. Her clothes are like her politics – frozen in place. Oops . . . got a bit political there. Seriously, her appearance is creepy for me. Also, I don’t like the way her jackets fit. Again, a sort of immobile fixed shape that never varies.

I don’t think Pelosi dresses young, but I think she dresses elegantly and impeccably for her age and station in life. As she should.

My mother has met Hillary Clinton and said the same thing – much more petite in person, and prettier in person than how she photographs.

lol lefthandofdog! (and good to see you)

sew, I like Hillary’s pantsuits because they remind me of my mother’s back in the '60s and 70s. My mom would buy the exact same Polyester pantsuit in a dozen different colors to wear to work: royal blue, lavendar, black, sherbert green, you name it. She’d mix up the shirts underneath, of course. Oh, and she’d buy the same shoes in white, black and navy. :)

Oh no, Pizzagirl, didn’t you get the memo…we’re all suppose to dress like we’re 35 until we drop dead.

Seriously, I also think she dresses elegantly and appropriately for someone her age. My goal in life is to develop a more elegant and sophisticated style (though not dowdy) as I get older, not try to dress younger.

Youdontsay, My mom, too. She’d sew most of hers – always polyester and always in a vibrant color, usually festooned with a scarf at the neck. Oh and a nice pin on the lapel. She would wear what she called a “shell” beneath, sleeveless little top, no doubt also polyester!

No wonder my mom adores Hillary!

Likewise, jym. Im always reading, but like tv’s Mr. Ed, I only speak when I have something to say -and it’s usually along the lines of something a Palomino would come up with.

I think Nancy Pelosi dresses impeccably for a woman her age. She either has fantastic taste or a very talented dresser.

Now, the plastic surgery is another story. Her face is grotesque and difficult to actually look at.

I think photographs don’t capture how genuinely warm Hillary is.

I was late to this controversy, but I have to say that Bachman’s eyes don’t look all that strange to me. As for the Newsweek photo, I think her eyes look very slightly crossed, as if she’s looking at a small object in front of her (the birdie, maybe?). It looks more startled than rage-filled, anyway.

I would hate to be judged on every photograph ever taken of me, that’s for sure! I don’t think I’m photogenic or that I look a lot like photos taken of me. Other people I know look far, far better in pictures than they actually do in person.

Greenwich posted this answer Friday morning and I think it’s the actual answer. The stuff on the net where they put Ms. Bachman’s eyes (beautiful eyes, BTW) onto other people, art, etc. (they were a big improvement on Eleanor Roosevelt) confirms that the whites do show above the iris.

Try it in the mirror. Lift your lids so that the whites show above the iris. You instantly look deranged.

If it is the result of surgery, I wonder if she can intentionally not open her eyes very wide, so as to look more “normal”? If so, maybe her campaign folks have noticed all of this too and are coaching her.

Better not run for president then.

But if you ran for president, you would be. Not smart on the part of the voting public, but we do it.

So interesting to reflect how eyes are thought to reflect character/mental qualities:

eyes too close together - in the past, indicated that the person was a criminal
eyes too wide open - crazy or enraged
eyes not open enough - sleepy or disinterested
not looking someone in the eye - lying

Ulysses Grant’s wife was severerly cross-eyed. Can you imagine if a presidential candidate’s wife was severely cross-eyed? Or morbidly obese? Or was missing front teeth? I even think that in this era of intense media crutiny, an unfortunate physical characteristic of a candidate’s spouse could cause the candidate to lose votes.
