What is job prospect for computer science college grad in Portland, Oregon?

Son got an offer from University of Portland (UP) with a handsome scholarship/grant which makes cost of attendance smaller than going to UC Riverside as an instate student. But we would very much like to find out what is it like finding internship in Portland or entry level jobs after graduating with a CS major?

Honestly, I think any school for the tech field can get you a nice job. I would personally take as much money as I can get for college and move back to California for job options. Mostly focus on the Bay Area and SoCal. My uncle’s co-worker graduated from Montana State for CS and moved out to California and got a job at Cisco Systems in the Bay Area. I interviewed him for one of my engineering projects and he makes 125,000 a year.

Did u go to the admitted student reception last Sunday. They talked about Silicon Forest and the growth of CS in Portland with internship opportunities.

As someone from oregon, I can tell you that UC Riverside is the way to go. It comes down to if you want to work in silicon valley or Silicon Forrest (in Hillsboro, OR). Hillsoboro is up and coming, but it will need a bit more time to get to the same level as Sillicon Valley. While Hillsboro is a cute little town, there isn’t much todo around unless you want to make the communte to portland. Traveling between portland and hillsboro is about 45minutes on a medium traffic day.

Just my two cents, but then again in CS you’ll be making boat loads either way. Good Luck!

We are going next month in spring break. Thank you for everyone’s info!
