LSP is NYU’s Liberal Studies Program.

Explore the above link - it should answer any of your questions. :)

so from what i can gather, it’s like…remedial classes? i see that people are always speaking of it in a bad way, and that low SAT scores can get you placed in it? does that put off your education for two years though? that’s ridiculous if it does.

i mean, if placed in LSP, can you still work on your major and be done in 4 years or will you be done in 6 years? that sucks

NO, you do not stay for six years. My son is in LSP and can start taking classes in his major next semester. In fact he may even graduate a semester early because of AP credits.Being placed in LSP is not horrible. My son loves his small classes, great professors and no one frowns on you because your in LSP.

Heh. LSP stigma. The bad rap LSP gets is because of the NYU students joke around with each other on what school that attend (LSP students have bad applications, Tisch students require nose rings for admission, ect.) All honesty, no one really cares where you attend NYU, as long as you go there.

Getting into LSP is not a punishment. The admission office decides to place a selected amount of students into LSP (about 1000, making it the second largest undergraduate class), because they feel the students will benefit from having smaller and more liberal arts oriented general ed. classes. All the classes that you take in LSP work in credits towards your original major, and students generally start taking classes for their major in whatever school they initially applied for in sophomore year.

LSP students finish their bachelor degrees in four years, just like everyone else.

ah, okay. thank you all for the feedback :)
