<p>Probably page count. Pages are easier to count than words. If you want, you could make the margins/font/spacing very slightly smaller without changing the appearance much.</p>

<p>I would say the word count is the one to pay attention to most, but pay attention to both since he supplied you with parameters. Your essay is too long.</p>
<p>Yeah you should probably cut some words out, but don’t lose sleep if your essay is at 800 words unless your professor is the type of person who would care. </p>
<p>Also can’t you submit in PDF? I don’t think there’s a convenient word count display in pdf readers, plus the file type is more professional. The only reason to submit something in a word document is if the professor asks you too or if she plans to make edits/remarks on the document itself. A word document signifies the process is not finished. A pdf signifies a final product.</p>
<p>your grammar, check it carefully and personal statements, you dont have to add a lot but some of them would increase your mark.</p>
