Hello everyone:

If you could put MOST IMPORTANT on any single (or group of) part(s) to include in an admissions essay to impress the admissions office, what would it be?

Is it GPA?
Is it Extracurricular Activities?
Is it Leadership?
Is it Work History?
Or, is it a combination of all these things?

Thank you for your help!

Are you talking about the common app essay? The important thing is that your personality comes through; not to rehash what is already on your app. Pick a topic you’re passionate about. Some schools ask for an essay about an extracurricular activity you were a part of that matters to you, so that’s when you’d write about that/

I think any of those are fine, though I’m not sure that Grade Point Average is the best to talk about for an entire essay. I do not, however, recommend the last choice (combination of all these) simply because it is too much to cram into 500 words!

My main essay actually focused on none of your categories. I chose to write instead about my culture. As an international applicant, it may have been cliche…but I wouldn’t as much about a cliche topic as I’d worry about a cliche way to write it.

Good luck!

That is great feedback. Thank you both for the ideas and input.

Michelle, yes I am talking about the common app essay.
