I may decide to not take the first test because I am not prepared, one test is dropped and the grade is calculated from 5 tests.

what is my Probability of passing course?

it seems to me to be a win win situation, I may be wrong.

Well, the depends on the class, how you do on assignments in general, what percentage of your score is based on tests, if you miss a test later, class policies, etc. There’s really nothing we can tell you.

Just take the test… even if you’re not prepared and don’t do too well, any score is better than a zero, and it’ll give you an idea of what to expect (in terms of format and grading) on the other tests. Or you could get off the internet and go study, instead of choosing between unprepared and skipping.

I’m guessing your test isn’t tonight, so you have time to study. If you decide to skip the exam because you haven’t bothered to study at all, it pretty much lets you know what type of student you are, and what’s important to you.

The second, third etc tests may be harder… take the exam!

thanks I will take the test
10 problems per test, final grade based on 50 total problems
I figure I can get 24 of the 50 total problems wrong if I take all 5 tests
360 - 400 A
320 - 359 B
280 - 319 C
240 - 279 D
0 - 239 F

Good. Now study. Bonus points if you get classmates in on it.

Well, passing probabilities will surely go up if you will study :)!
