Well, where I am from-deep south football country, I hear how hard students must be working at ND! Yes, football comes up-but for those people concerned about academics and NOT football, the name ND conjures challenging academics. Son has no regrets attending-and as one poster mentioned, the alum base is HUGE (esp with regard to job prospects)! Solid academics tempered with tradition=University of Notre Dame.

They’re really good in chemistry (synthetic rubber, anyone?). Plus the beauty of the campus rivals any in the country. Really good in English, philosophy, French, and engineering. Business school is good too. National name recognition beat only by perhaps Harvard and West Point (Harvard, West Point and Notre Dame are probably featured in as many movies as all other colleges combined).

^ Thanks, tourguide. What’s the next stop? ;)

The promise of parietals to reassure strict parents?

Jesting, of course.

But in all honesty, I think that Notre Dame is one of the most overrated schools in the country. It’s a good school, but it definitely doesn’t deserve as much hype as it gets. Not when other, equally outstanding (if not better) schools, are ignored.

ND is a great school that offers top academics and athletics-similar to Duke and Stanford models. As mentioned, Notre Dame has an extremely loyal alumni base that ranks with the best Ivies and Duke, Stanford.
