what is R & B ?

several new artists (singers) keep saying that. Is it like a new Genre of Music? Thanks

Actually its really old. It stands for Rhythm and Blues, and its what rock, rap and almost every other music genre originated from.

rhythm and blues started in the 40’s. i believe it came from a combination of jazz and blues. i love it. most of the R&B you hear today is more of a “hip hop” type R&B. there’s still some genuine r&b artists out there, but radio R&B is more influenced by the rap scence at times.

Do you live under a rock?.. oh wait youre in Egypt…

R and B predates everyone on this message board.

R&B is old, like Aretha Franklin was R&B. Today its morphed into like, hard to describe, but examples would be Usher, Destiny’s Child, TLC, Mariah Carey, Neyo, Mario, etc.

okay. so it’s old. but I’ve never actually heard anyone say it til recently.

and yes i live in egypt…that doesn’t mean i don’t know what goes on in the world or that there are no cars here…etc
I think I’m just goig to have to get rid of the location thing. I get that kind of stuff all the time :)

Obviously you don’t know what is going on in the world if you don’t know what R&B is.

i said that i hadn’t heard anyone say it until recently. and just because I’m not as enlightened as everyone in the rhelm of music and musucians doesn’t mean i don’t know what is going on in the world.
