I am thinking about doing ED to jhu . My friend told me not to do it because I wouldn’t get my results back until december. But couldn’t you just write all the essays and supplements before you get your results? So if you don’t get in you already have the hard part done.

ED isn’t bad. If you really want to go to a college and you love it and fit within its stat ranges, then go for it. Cost of the college should also be noted. ED is binding, it almost always increases your chance of getting accepted, and you get your results back in December…(Everyone else gets them back like around Feb). You don’t have to stress anymore if you get accepted and can relax much sooner than you peers. You submit it like any other app, you do everything and then you send it in.

Like the person above me said, ED is binding, which means that in most cases you HAVE to attend that school. But if you know for a fact that you want to go there, and you can afford it etc, its pretty beneficial.

But instead of applying ED and sending in apps before u get ur results just in case you dont get accepted. Couldnt you just fill out the app and not send it in until you hear your ED results? That way you could save money

ED really isn’t that good of a deal unless you don’t need great financial aid and you are dead set on going to a certain school. If you don’t do ED you have the ability to compare the different schools and respective financial aid offers that each of them give… remember the schools are somewhat competing for you at that point.

ED is generally considered bad if you are applying for financial aid. With ED, you can’t compare offers between different schools. ED will usually offer an out if it is not financially possible.

Yes, if you apply ED you can send in all your other applications or have them ready to send. If you are accepted to your ED school then you are required to withdraw any applications that are sent and you can’t send in additional applications.

ED notification is usually in the first two weeks of December and the applications deadlines are usually the first two weeks of November. Regular decision notification is usually the end of March-early April.

ED is for those who have an absolute first choice school, want to increase their chances of admittance, and don’t care about comparing FA packages. If you’re asking for FA, you must be prepared to take or leave whatever aid is offered; you just want to know if you can afford the school. If not enough, you decline the offer, and apply RD elsewhere. Note that you can simultaneously apply EA and ED in many cases, but check schools’ web sites for restrictions.
