What is Supply Chain Management?

Hi all,

Then title basically sums my question up. (is it math/writing, did you have a hard time with it, what is it used for, anything relevant, etc.?) I have to take the class next semester. Thanks

It is the study of logistics - How parts get where they need to be (in maintaining/sustaining an item or building it), how materials get there, how deliveries occur, what is most efficient, how to trim costs or time.

“Supply Chain” is the trendy new name for what used to be called “Manufacturing.” So Supply Chain Management is bascially the production boss - with function expanded slightly to include related support functions such as Purchasing and Shipping.

You could do worse than checking for the google and youtube channels of the WP Carey school at ASU (Arizona State.) Plenty of nice visual explanations about SCM. Fwiw, as far as education in this field, ASU and Georgia Tech are leading the pack.
