What is the average financial grant for Prep schools March 10 decision notification?

Just wondering what the average grant is. Just found out my child was accepted to two top BS’s. Received pretty much full tuition/fees plus stipend. Is this normal. Child is a very strong student/athlete. This is our first BS experience. Definitely been a crazy day, in a good way. Now just have to decide.

Each school will have a different average; you can check with any schools you’re curious about. Only Andover continues to claim need-blind admissions though many others meet 100% of demonstrated need. What those needs and subsequent awards are will vary from year to year, but it is quite “normal” for schools to meet the financial needs of accepted students. No one here can tell you what the average FA award is for all the boarding schools lumped together if that is your question, though you may get some anecdotal responses. Ultimately, the only award that matters is the one given to your family, and it appears that your need was met.

I think that info might be on boardingschoolreview.com or niche?

Most schools publish an average grant on their website. Schools give money for need in my experience. Congratulations on your sons acceptance, that was likely due to his impressive accomplishments.

Never going to happen but I’d love to see that actual bell curve on this, both by school and for all BS combined. I don’t think it’d be a standard normal bell curve - which would imply a mean and median grant of about 50% of tuition - at all.

@DroidsLookingFor that is absolutely amazing! So happy for your family and you must be so proud of your kid.

Also, no, this is not exactly normal… but it definitely seems like you deserve it!

@petrich0r I think you meant to tag the OP, but, we also had a great day on M10 so will happily also take your well wishes

At the most coveted schools, FA is need based. In other words, the kid from an upper middle class family will get a smaller aid package while the kid of a single Mom who makes minimum wage might get a full ride and subsidies for everything from laptops, to flights home, to summer tutoring, to international travel, to private music lessons. The size of the package depends on the families’ financial need and the school’s endowment, not how great the kid is.

Not sure why you feel a need to compare average packages with other schools since all that matters is the package your own kid was offered and your family’s financial circumstances probably don’t match the “average” at every school

Congratulations and best of luck.

@DroidsLookingFor Yep, I got a little confused :D! So pumped for everyone that had a great M10, though. My wishes are extended to everyone!
