What is the best college I can get into...?

GPA Weighted: 3.74 (Freshman year was bad for personal reasons which I will explain to colleges but others years improved a lot)
Arista Honors Society
Extracurriculars: Dance, Theater, Debate Team, Volunteering, Part time job, Health Occupation Students Club
I am Hispanic
In my opinion I have really great letters of rec and essays. </p>

<p>I must hand in all counselor forms for colleges I am applying to my this Friday 11/16.
Say cost and location is not an issue, what is the best school I can get into. </p>

<p>I was thinking of applying to Boston College, NYU, Macauly Honors CUNY. Do I have a chance at any?<br>
Can anyone suggest me any others I have a chance at? What about Duke? Is there no way?</p>

<p>These are good scores. I think you are competetive to all these schools. I think you should even try for Cornell, take a chance, why not.</p>

<p>I agree with fatherofm. You should be proud of your SAT scores; they are very good! That puts you at the right level to apply to most top-tier schools. Some suggestions I have for you would be Georgetown, U of Mich, Northwestern, and UVa. Heck, why not shoot for the stars and apply to, say, Dartmouth too!
Bottom line is that you are a solid applicant. Give the tippy-top schools a try; you never know!
Also, your ethnicity helps too (being hispanic seems to be an advantage among students).</p>

<p>What is your financial situation? NYU is notoriously stingy… I also disagree that you need more reaches, I think more matches would be a good idea. You might want to put a couple of reaches on the list (Duke & Cornell), but then fill in with a couple more solid matches, and one that you are SURE you will get into.</p>

<p>Thanks guys! but remember my 3.74 gpa which translates to 92.06 is WEIGHTED average which I don’t think is that good. But again I did very bad my freshman year (I got about 85 average freshman year and junior year I got a 102 average)</p>

<p>Can’t they keep it simple, 4.0 GPA weighed, unweighed, maybe out of 100 scale too.</p>

<p>But yeah, You’re competitive for quite a few schools beyond those.</p>

<p>What’s your unweighted? Several schools on your reach list look at unweighted also.</p>

<p>Also, what are your safeties? Macaulay Honors, while a financially sound option, is never a safety to anyone.</p>

<p>I read somewhere in CC that Cornell doesn’t look at Freshman grades, somebody could correct me if I am wrong.</p>

<p>You have great SAT scores, solid extracurriculars, and if you have a reason for low grades freshman year, colleges will definitely understand.
Duke could be a bit of a reach, but I would DEFINITELY give it a shot.</p>

<p>Also, UC’s do not consider freshman year grades.</p>
