What is the best way to write a thesis for the SAT essay?

<p>I’ve seen different approaches, such as</p>

<p>Enumerating each example in separate sentences</p>

<p>“On 2 occasions, the Confederate army used deception in an attempt to overthrow the more powerful Union Army. Also, in literature, Jay Gatsby uses deception to win over his true love”</p>

<p>Listing the examples in one sentence</p>

<p>“Both the Confederate army and Jay Gatsby show that deception can have benefits.”</p>

<p>General statements</p>

<p>“Deception does not offer the same long term benefits that honesty does”</p>

<p>"In both literature and history, deception has proved to be valuable. </p>

<p>I understand that the writer has the liberty to approach the thesis in a variety of ways, but are certain approaches better than others?</p>

<p>Certain approaches are more effective (they are more likely to reel readers in, more exciting, etc.) than other, boring ones. Here’s what I use:</p>

<p>Deception does not offer the same long term benefits that honesty does. In other words, honesty is critical/crucial in order to receive long term benefits. Throughout the extent of mankind, insightful works of extraordinary literature, and my own personal experiences, the critical evidence to corroborate my comprehensive outlook is pervasive.</p>
