No snarks here. I have heard this term a number of times, this morning the latest.What is this? How or why does someone get into this? And why would anyone (save for more privacy?) want to enter this place which seems to be illegal or dangerous?
Just Google it. There’s lots to read. It’s not all criminal, but it’s certainly not all benign.
If you are talking about the so called Dark Net, which is on the web but usually requires a special browser to access it (I have not heard it called “Black universe” before, is it the same thing?). There is a lot of illegal activity going on on these sites, everything from illegal drug auctions, to selling of black market military gear, to really unsavory things like child porn and sex trafficking, to others of various kinds of legal but unsavory things. Among other things, entering that world from what i hear is a lot more than being squicked, a lot of the darknet is full of all kinds of trojan horses, spyware, you name it, that makes the regular net look like Shangri-La.
Thank you both. And yes, music pmt…it is the same thing. It is just that mothers of grown kids may get actual names wrong. I am NOT interested in going there, but CNN referenced it several times this morning and I had to know what it was.
I first gained more awareness of it years ago when reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series but have heard it referred to as darknet.

Wikipedia also has a number of articles.
@bevhills:
Forget it, I get that all the time with my son, I’ll mention something and he’ll say “where the hell did you hear it called that?” lol.
My biggest advice would be the stay the heck away from it, even just to look…
I will stay away…never a question. If I hear evil, dangerous, illegal, not interested. And I have raised kids through their teens…enough danger for me.
It’s not all evil, dangerous and/or illegal, but if you have no reason to go there … then you have no reason to go there. There are people with legitimate reasons who know what they are doing. DarkNet and many of the other names are perhaps unnecessarily pejorative but serve a useful purpose in deterring lambs from going naively to the slaughter.
I get the impression that the denizens of the darker corners of the internet kind of relish the pejorative terms. It adds to the aura.
Well … we might be better off if there were more honest citizens strolling around those dark alleys, but I’m not going to suggest that anyone put themselves in harm’s way. The “unsearchable net” [which I think is a more accurate term] is far bigger than the dark net. And maybe some day we will all get away from using dark and black to describe things sinister. Just sayin’
How the heck is “Dark Net” pejorative, @AboutTheSame and @doschicos ?
Let’s just say I have a few students who’ve gotten into trouble that way. You can buy anything with bitcoin. Anything. Lots of stuff nobody should have.
@Hanna At some point towards the end of your career, you’re going to have to write a book about some of the stuff you’ve encountered. You can change details to protect the … ummm, I guess I can’t call them the innocent. I’d buy it!
^ I’d read that.
