what is the chance to be accepted to a college to finish the education after expelled college

newly on set and diagnosis of mental health issue while in college, the behavior during the mental impairment caused discipline of expulsion. is on treatment now. will take time for treatment, resting.
would like to know if any one knows any positive outcome/stories/experiences?/ideas?
Thank you

@hanna perhaps you can chime in.

Yes…kids do graduate from college after expulsion.

It probably depends on the severity of the behavior and what the student does with the time between the expulsion and applying to different colleges. @Hanna might be able to offer some advice.

Wouldn’t community college followed by transfer to a stats only admission state university be an option?

thank you,@thumper1, and @austinmshauri. it is encouraging to know there is a chance, but how? any suggestion? hope @hanna can help. thanks

I would imagine the best path to be

  1. Get formally diagnosed
  2. Get a treatment plan
  3. Follow that treatment plan
  4. Ease back into college life…perhaps at a community college
  5. or after completing the above, appeal for re-instatement at the first college
  6. or as mentioned, look for a local state college
  7. Something that may be useful to know about is Thomas Edison State College in NJ…they have no restrictions on how many credits you transfer

Thanks, everyone!

Yes, you can transfer after an expulsion. I have worked with hundreds of students in this situation, and it is more or less my story, too. My mental health meltdown happened in high school rather than college, and my holistic private high school chose not to formally kick me out, but I did not graduate. I lived to tell the tale and even graduate from Harvard twice. The important thing is to LIVE the recovery, and then you can TELL the recovery story to colleges.

Achieving and maintaining the recovery is the hard part here. If you can do that, the college part is comparatively easy.

If you’d like some professional help on this, PM me. Good luck!

hanna. thank you for your reply.. I tried to PM you, but don't know how, there is no where indicate you can PM. what should I do, can anybody help me with this? thank you

You can’t pm until you have a certain number of posts but maybe an administrator of the thread can help here.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/2064222-how-to-pm-someone-p1.html is a thread about PMing. Need 15 posts to initiate a PM, although replies to others who PM you are allowed before that.

@Hanna I am new here,I dont have 15 posts yet. if I can not PM you, may i leave an email address here for you to contact me? or any other way? thank you
