What is the chance to get into UChicago, Cornell and Dartmouth? what is the best fit ED school? [MA resident, 3.72 GPA, 1540 SAT, bioengineering]

Then that works. BUT then I have to ask the OP…what is the benefit in terms of admission for this student if he takes these courses during a gap year, but can’t use them on his college application?

I realize this would be for learnings sake, and that is very worthwhile. Is that the plan?

Thanks for sharing these are ULC courses.

Does your son have at least one affordable highly likely school on his list? It’s time for him to have a complete college list with schools where he wouldn’t be recruited. Would you like non-reach suggestions for his list?

Good luck to him on recruiting and his applications.

End of day, if nothing better works out, at least UMass Amherst could be an option, very affordable with instate status + employee discount + Commonwealth award (only applicable to state public schools). UMass Amherst offered last year and surely he will apply again as a safety /base.

There are only couples schools still have possibility. However, he would not like to apply for these school as ED or REA.

Thank you very much!

I agree they are highly likely to accept him again. He should get his app in by the EA deadline.

What’s better? It’s accredited, it’s very solid.

As I showed above, statistically, the higher rank or better perceived name is often misleading or of little value vs another. And Mass in general is a hot spot for the industry.

If you want to go to others great, but in my opinion, you are presenting UMASS as some barely passable opportunity.

That’s not true and has already cost the student a year of income.

The point is - regardless of where the student gets into, UMASS is a GREAT get, not a consolation prize.

And for a college kid, of which many complain about the food, it’s top rated in the country !! One of my co workers has attested to that.

I agree with this point wholeheartedly. It’s why my GS chose UMass as an out of state student. . . Well, that and the food.
