whats the difference/

the differences:

you don’t get a dorm room.
you take your 1st semester classes via jc or extension

similarities:
because 1st semester classes don’t mean ***** in terms of value, you can still graduate in 4 years.

so would being accepted in fall of 2005 be better than spring of 2006?

If you are in the extension program, you can apply for a dorm room for the fall. However, you are not guaranteed a dorm room (at least this was the case last year).

youre not guaranteed but it says most people get one

wht? No dorm room? No dorm room if I do the fall freshmen program or no dorm room at all?? This is f’ed up!

its just not guaranteed, but all of the X students i know live in a dorm

that’d be weird to get a dorm and drive down all the way to santa clara or whatever for that. that’s pretty lame.

are the worse of the acceptees put in spring or is it random?

I doubt the worst of the acceptees are put in spring. By UC Berkeley admission statistics I consider myself in the top part: 1550 SAT 4.2 UC GPA 4 year athlete. I think at least even just numberwise that puts me somewhere at least not in the bottom of the bucket.

yeah i’m with you, 1540, 4.15, 3 year student council, 4 year athlete, 4 year newspaper editor

***. That’s annoying though. I’m definitely doing the fall thing but I’m a little annoyed that I have to take separate classes and go to a different dorm. I did well in school, better than most applicants, why do I have to be the second rate student? As glad as I am to be admitted…

i heard from the lj ucberkeley community that it is purely random to fit in all the freshmen…i too had pretty high stats and leadership stuff so im pretty sure its not because we were “borderline” or w/e…im thinking about taking the first semester off for a long vacation.

It says on the website (in the Q and A section) that Spring admits are pretty much chosen at random. So we just had terrible luck, I guess. :o

Bad luck indeed! But after a rejection and a waitlist in one day, I’m just glad to get accepted.
