I heard, from a friend, that a Motel is not safe and is significantly more dirty; people usually have sex in them and the place isn’t well maintained. Is there any truth to this? The price for a Motel is approximately $50/night and approximately $130/night for a hotel. I will be spending 3 nights there due to a college orientation/advising day. Is a Hotel worth the extra money?

I don’t think there’s usually that much of a difference anymore. I think originally motels were the little places where you drive right to the door (like in psycho) and was called a “motor hotel” which was shortened to motel. (that’s what I heard, don’t know how true it is). but I think now the terms are generally used pretty interchangeably.

People still have sex in hotels. As a matter of fact, older, more wealthier people who take lots of viagra have sex in hotels. And since old people don’t have sex as often as their younger counterparts, when they finally do have sex, they have even dirtier sex, because they have to make the most out of their sex, while younger people have more sex anyway, and thus they don’t have to nor usually do give it their 100% unless it’s after a fight. So just think about it, isn’t old people sex dirtier than young people sex? If I were you, I would just sleep in the lobby, people only have sex their on occasion, if they’re feeling outgoing enough.

Motels are usually cheaper and less stars. They have the more basic accomodations. Still some chains are generally nice and clean and thus perfect for the non-discriminating patron.

Hotels are usually more expensive with better accomodations. They provide more services such as continental breakfasts, etc.

And collegeguy just proves my point even furthur, in that hotels have more amenities, which causes older people who need more care and are also richer to choose hotels, and have more dirty old people sex in hotels after they are pampered.

lol nyjunior is gross :x

No! I’m just telling the truth, and thus I am helpful. Did you read the original poster’s post? Lil’ rabbit killer specifically asked about the value of truth in the sex rumor. I was just clearing everything up for lil’ rabbit killer.

If I am living in a motel for 3 nights, can I leave my things in the room when I go out?

yeah. as long as you lock the door. you might not want to leave anything valuable out if you’re getting the room cleaned though.

a little too helpful (cough TMI cough) ;)

You’re a smart lil’ rabbit killer, deciding on going to a motel and all. You see collegeguy, somebody appreciated my advice :p

And make sure you don’t leave your stuff unattended while the maids are cleaning, those maids will just steal everything you’ve got, they’re cheap and usually fat meanies! Of course I’m just stereotyping, BUT stereotypes are 99% of the time true!

I call this a motel. I definately wouldn’t stay at one.

This is a hotel.

Some hotels have the same type of customers as motels. Consider the Ramada I stayed at a month ago. All I can say is there’s a reason why a two room suite was only $34. I should have drove away the second I realized it was right by a prison and chicken factory…

You may see something called a Super 8 Motel. I’ve never stayed in one, but this chain of motels seems to be more like a hotel in terms of quality. Holiday Inns used to be motels, but are really a chain of hotels.

If you are traveling to Latin America, “motel” can refer to a place to have sex with prostitutes.

lil_killer, AAA rates motels. Any AAA “approved” motel is both safe and clean.

Motels have places for you to park your motor vehicles outside your room. Hotels are generally larger than motels.

Sleep Sentry just furthur proved my point…I’m sleepy though, so I’m going to go now, but just think about it, and if you still have any questions, I will do my best to answer them later.

Hotel: Where you get into your room from inside the building (elevator).

Motel: Where you get into your room by going outside the building (walking outside).

Motels are ghetto. End of story :)

Depending on where you are looking for a hotel, you may be able to find a decent one for about $50.
