What is the highest increase you have ever seen in SAT scores?
Please be honest and if you can, cite proof.

The highest i;ve seen was a kid in my high school-his score went from 1760 sophmore year to 2330 senior yr. (570 pts).

But mine was higher even though im going to be a junior. mine went from 1220 on SAT’s in 7th grade to 1960 on PSAT sophomore year (740 pts.)

I hope your telling the truth because I need some motivation.

How exactly did you manage to make such an improvement? Please give me every detail.

There’s no need to make three of these threads.

they studied. there’s no magic trick to it.

ACTUALLY, from 7th to the end of 9th grade, i did not. IT was just a natural thing. However, before the real sophm. PSAT test, I took a couple of tests from CB book and the practice PSAT test. I guess that helped. But i think it was just natural.

After ten weeks of prep, went from 520 math, 480 CR, 480 W Essay 8

to

800 M, 780 CR, 760 W, 11 essay. 2 more questions… one reading, one math 2400.

Another kid, 6 weeks prep

1340 to 2180… results pending October test.

With dedicated work, an open mind, and a willingness to really “try” what is asked of you–I think 1000+ is possible. So far, we have seen 910+ as the max increase.

I had a student last year go from 1430 to 2010, another go from 1630 to 2160, another go from 1660 to 2210, another go from 1770 to 2300, and another go from 1920 to 2400, all in the space of six to nine weeks.

@marvin100, you must be a brilliant teacher

What prep books did you guys use? I’m from the UK so classes aren’t an option. Thanks!

Thanks, AimingAt750, but as much as I’d like to take all the credit, I don’t think so.

I’ve just been doing it for a long time and have developed systems that prevent kids from not improving. In a way, it’s about systemic thinking–all this stuff can be done on your own if you put systems in place to manage your time well and have great stuff to practice with.

Honestly, Quizlet, the Blue Book, and some of the very strong guides on CC are a terrific start. SilverTurtle’s Guide isn’t bad at all–if you master that, master 5000-8000 vocab words, and practice very hard, you can see giant improvement. ANYONE can get 750+ in W, for example. CR takes more effort and kids with low English fluency (I work in Seoul) may have a slightly lower ceiling on the CR portion of the exam.

@marvin100: Was all this really possible in a span of 6 to 9 weeks?? I always thought it would take 3-4 months of preparation, but to have improvement like that in 6-9 weeks is amazing.

I went from a 1930 total (660 M, 650 W, 620 CR) in the fall of my junior year to a 2240 (750 M, 780 W, 710 CR) in the spring of my junior year. I just studied a bit more, mostly focusing on recognizing the different types of questions that they always put on the test. I also studied vocab. I studied for about 3 hours per week for about 5 weeks.

Nicely done, vballgirl94.

SATACT95: yes, really possible. It takes WORK, though, and good methods.
