What is the minimum ACT score that would ensure admission to American University?

I know the stats for American, and how the 50th percentile range was about 25-29, but what is really the minimum ACT score that I would need to get into American University.

Sorry, hate to break it to you, but no ACT score will guarantee you admission to ANY school, whether that school is American University or any other university.

36

10char

not sure about American, but many in-state schools guarantee admissions if you have a minimum of certain scores and GPA. For my state university and the local one, if you have a 3.0 GPA and a 19, or 21 you are guarantee admissions.

I’ve heard that 28 is where the bar is set for most average schools (i.e., not HYPS obviously) … I have absolutely no idea if this is accurate but as I sat down to take the ACT I was like, “Ok, gotta get 28 or above!”

Again: I heard this by word of mouth. It might not be real.

28 is the 92% percentile. There are many people who get into “average” colleges with lower scores.

It depends on your other stats. If you have a very high GPA, then they’ll probably over look a 25 on your ACT. However, if you have a very low GPA, you’ll need a higher ACT (29 and so on) to make up for your grades. There’s no equation for it though, so acceptance can be pretty random.

My school has a naviance program and on it there is a scattergram that plots applicants based off of GPA and test score. On the American University Scattergram
Lowest ACT score from my school that was accepted was a 21 with a 3.7 weighted GPA

Lowest weighted GPA that was accepted was about 3.4 weighted and had an ACT score of 25.

But I wouldn’t completely base off of the lowest scores because these statistics don’t show what kind of essays they wrote/the extracurriculars they did.

25 probably haha

Around 100 kids get a 36 every taking, and scores above 30 are similar in their elusiveness (around 1000 each). In all seriousness, get over 28-29 and you’ll perfectly fine at American. At a school like that, they tend to allow higher GPAs with lower test scores, and vice versa. If 28 is the 92 percentile, as an above poster stated, you should get in rather easily.

30+ and your good.

I will most likely be applying either ED or EA (if that helps).

There’s no “minimum” score for any college; acceptance depends on much more than numbers and tests. However, your stats look good for American, so I wouldn’t worry much.
