What is the most prestigious school I could get into?

<p>…Across the entire U.S. (I live in Texas)</p>

<p>Mediocre 3.3 GPA (3.8 Weighted)
1730 SAT (1200 math+reading)
Solid extracurriculars
High School is ranked #5 public open-enrollment nationally</p>

<p>I am interested in studying Political Science and Government and am hoping to set myself up well for post-graduation.</p>

<p>Interested in:

  • UT-Dallas Auto-Admit (likely to go since my other choices are major reaches)
  • UT-Austin (unlikely to get in because they weigh class rank heavily and I went to a competitive HS)
  • UW-Seattle (somewhat of a reach, i think?)
  • UI-Urbana-Champaign
  • UM-Ann Arbor (Big Reach)
  • UVA (Big Reach)</p>

<p>Open to any suggestions or comments regarding where I should apply.
Willing to apply with some B.S. major if it means going to a top school.</p>

<p>With a low GPA and low SAT scores, I high doubt that UIUC, UM, or UVA are in the cards.</p>

<p>Nothing. Just Go to some mediocre school like your grades.</p>

<p>Take the SAT test once or twice more if you have to and try to boost your score above 2000. If you have good test scores and write solid essays some of the more prestigious schools may be willing to take a second look at your application, despite your mediocre gpa.</p>

<p>It seems your own chancing is pretty reasonable. The only one you left out is UIUC. Your GPA is below their average (and perhaps at ~25%). Your SAT (CR+M at 1200) is also at ~25% of some programs (below 25% for science, business, or engineering). As you are from Texas, it would be quite a reach for you.</p>

<p>You might want to go to George Mason U in D.C. if you like Gov’t. If you raise it to an 1850 or so American and GWU would be possible.</p>
