I hear a lot about going in depth in a particular field.
In my case it’s social work/volunteering.

Well, honestly 5% or less! depending on the strength of the other applicants…
Any special honors or awards? Research? Something to set you apart? The truth is that Stanford is
just not a “please chance me” school…

FIRST Deans List is a major award, it’s the one of the most prestigious.
No, I didn’t have any research, but you can’t do EVERYTHING right?
Unfortunately, i’m not an asian machine, just a very dedicated worker.
My well roundness sets me apart, I excel athletically and academically, i’m a leader and devote my time for the benefit of others. I’m very passionate about the community and Stanford itself.
That’s why I belong there.

Oh, dear.

@farmerstan‌
Wow
If you’re so sure that you’ll get in then why are you asking others for their opinions. Also, why do you ask for peoples’ opinions and then get mad when they give you it. I hope you’re kidding. Get off this site and do something amazing. #yolo lol

hold up hold up
calm down
i calmed down too

that speech message was a little too passionate
dont take it too legitimately, after all this is the internet

Yea in the end it’s hard to say whether or not you’ll get into Stanford. Don’t be disheartened by replies here. Apply anyway and with full confidence. That said I don’t think you have the right mix.

what do you mean?
im asking genuinely

I’m saying that me looking at your profile I would THINK they would say no. But that’s all I can do even though I got in myself; all I can do is speculate. There are many people who I’ve seen, I’m surprised got in looking at their profile and many others who I’m surprised didn’t. So that is why even though I don’t think you would or even if no one else thinks you would, apply anyway and with full confidence. The same thing happened to me. People said I wouldn’t get in.

oh so im not good
even if i have good character

Asian Male, high income, unhooked? Well, your stats certainly are competitive, but don’t assume you are guaranteed getting in.

Also, it is a bit silly to “rate” your essays. Your essays should be polished, revised, and revised more. You shouldn’t have any 8/10’s because ideally they should express exactly what you want to say about yourself. Maybe work on them a little bit more?

yes definitely
just giving my ratings as of then

I’d say you have the numbers to get in. But it’s hard for anyone without access to your whole admissions packet to say more than that. Stanford, as far as I can tell from two years of interacting with my peers here, cares a lot about the non-numerical aspects of a student, especially the essays and letters of recommendation. If you’re interested in how Stanford admissions works, I highly recommend that you read this article, which was recently published in our alumni magazine. In it, both the Dean and Assistant Dean of Stanford Undergraduate admissions talk about what goes on behind the scenes. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

As everyone says, you have the stats necessary, but beyond that it’ll be the intangibles. I would work really hard on the essays. Your stats and EC’s are very similar to mine, and I’m pretty sure the only thing that set me apart were the essays

great article
