My son is on the “priority waitlist” of CMU -SCS…Just curious about the probability of getting off the waitlist. When will CMU usually announce it?
They offer 3x WL spots that they even admit. It’s criminal.
A WL is telling you that you were rejected. But as a hedge for us in case we fall short, join. It’s for them to ensure enough revenue. Not for you. It’s unfair mind games. Of course every year could be different but their #s stay similar. I looked at the year prior too. You never know but numerically odds are quite slim. But a small % may get lucky - like 1% or less
Where is #2? Fall in love with it. It’s highly highly likely where you will end up.
For SCS, the waitlist admit rate is very low. Lower than the overall waitlist acceptance rate. Just be sure that you understand accepting a spot on the priority waitlist is essentially binding. It might make your chances go up slightly.
Also, CMU is not need blind for waitlisted students so if you need aid, your chances will be lower. If you’re full pay, the odds are better. It’s quite a game CMU is playing with their “priority” waitlist.
I know a family whose child was accepted off of the priority waitlist(not SCS), but they were offered a spot due to soft support as an athletic recruit. They were surprised by the COA so I’m hoping you’re fully aware of that end of it.
Good luck to your son, no matter where he ends up!
Waitlist movement for most schools starts around the May 1 decision date and can go well in to summer as kids shift around with the waitlists. I’ve seen kids taken off of waitlists in early August.
Definitely make plans elsewhere. Love the school that over you back.
