What is the purpose of abbreviations?

<p>Why do people say “my S” or “my D”?</p>

<p>Why not just say “my son” or “my daughter?” Those are what the abbreviations stand for right?</p>

<p>i don’t know about others but i’m a little lazy. daughter takes so long to type out! if everyone knows D is for daughter, why not just use D?</p>

<p>The parents will stop writing D and S on the same day that the kids stop writing LOL, U, ur, etc.</p>

<p>I originally used “D” when I cut-and-paste from a private e-mail to share something relevant here, using “D” to replace my daughter’s name, which I didn’t care to make public on this forum.</p>

<p>Coureur, LOL isn’t as bad as “Not Gr8 2C POS.”</p>
