What is the "Roster Signing"?

I note on the schedule for Freshman Orientation from 2-5 on Thursday, Aug. 26, is Roster Signing.

What is Roster Signing? Is this a dress-up event?

As the name implies, you sign a roster. It’s good to dress up. Some people wear ties or the female equivalent. Others do not.

I believe it’s the ceremony in which all incoming freshman sign that they will abide to the honor code.

esquiar and Blackroses are correct. sunnyholiday, it’s an event for the students. Their families are welcome, but not exactly invited, and most do not attend. I’ll pm you a little bit more about it.

When son (now a Senior) had Roster Signing, parents were definitely invited, and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It was classic Mudd, very funny, quirky, a great way to see your child join their class. Pretty much marked the “don’t really need you here anymore” as well.

I wouldn’t have missed it either  but we P’13s were not encouraged to attend… we were told it was “for the students” and that we’d probably find it long and boring. I was glad I went. I won’t go into detail, though. ;)

I agree that I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It was long, but not boring. I too will give no details, but afterwards felt better about leaving the young man on the opposite side of the country. He now was in a world that I would not be a part of, but where I knew he belonged. And yes, much to the amazement of husband and son, I got pretty weepy afterwards as I said goodbye. But it was a good weepy. Recommendation: make sure you have tissues that whole day. You never know when the weepies will hit  And students take pity on your parents (including dads) who suddenly get the sniffles and red eyes. We aren’t sorry or sad (and in a few days will revel in the freedom), just a bit emotional at the transition. We remember your little toes when you were a baby. And it seems like that was just yesterday.
