What is the Yale match?

My counselor recommends Yale for me, b/c of my interest in bio and music. I’m not too sure about the student body/culture at yale, so if any yalies are out there, tell me what yale is about. What is considered a match for yale and for myself, or does yale care about a match at all?

http://www.fiskeguide.com/

You may wish to pick up or browse through one of these guides at you local library or book store. See if the descripton of the college appeals to you.

I don’t know if you’re a match. To see what Yale is like you should visit for 2 or 3 days. But, FWIW, Yale has easily the best music programs of any university in the country, and also (along with MIT and Caltech) the strongest undergraduate biology program.

I agree with posterX, you must do an overnight to truly experience Yale. When I visited for Bulldog Days my first night wasn’t what I really expected of Yale and actually had thoughts of just matriculating at another school I was accepted to. However on the second and third nights (I stayed a little extra) I found a great group of friends and really discovered all the little quirks about Yale and fell in love with the school.

Also I think it’s borderline stupid to match a student with Yale or for that fact with any school because s/he is interested in the subjects of biology and music. S/he should have given you a list of choices based on what you want in class size, reputation, undergraduate focus, research opportunities, etc.

Yale to me seems to be a very cooperative environment which is not overly tense or stressful but tense enough to motivate a learner. Average class size is smaller than many top research universities and more faculty interaction. Yale just invested nearly 1 billion dollars in the science programs particularly biomedical engineering so I’m sure you could do some cross disciplinary research if you like biology. Plus Yale just purchased the Bayer complex which will enhance biology and life science research. Now is a great time to become interested in Yale as it transforms itself at a pace unequally by many universities.

Finally, admission officers look for applicants that match their school. In their acceptance letter they indicate that they believe that you are a match for Yale and they have a pre-determined set of criteria. Obviously all of the students meet this minimum requirement but if you set foot on campus, you’ll see that beyond the extraordinary test scores and achievements Yalies are an eclectic group of individuals who are highly motivated and learn for the joy of learning. Good luck in your search.

The Yale match is someone who is awesome.

Sense of community is big for Yale, and the arts and drama are huge on campus.

yoshi, i met you on the first day of bdd. what are you suggesting? :P

Oh I recant my statement, I met amazing people throughout my entire visit at Yale but through the events that Yale arranged during the second night I was truly convinced that it was the right school for me.
