What is UCSB like?

Hey, I’m a high school sophomore in the Bay Area. I want to know more about UCSB. What minimum GPA and SAT score is ideal to get accepted? How much should I be involved in extracurricular activities? Are there lots of parties? What ethnicities are most dominant at this school? Is the campus location convenient? Thanks in advance!

The average GPA is around a 4.0 and the average SAT score is around a 1900 last time I checked. So if you aim around those then you should have a decent chance of getting into the school. During the first two weeks at the school, there will be many clubs that will try to do everything to recruit you (so many that you can’t walk to class without being handed a flyer) so you should join the ones you like. The school is notorious for its party scene in Isla Vista. Caucasian is the dominant ethnicity and the campus location is awesome–it’s by the beach and you can take the bus to most places you need.

How close is the campus to the beach? Is it walking distance or do you have to drive?

the school is literally on the beach

I’ve never been there hopefully I can visit during spring break

Thanks! I’m kind of worried because my unweighted GPA this semester is only a 3.71. I better start studying more. Is the food okay here?

I’d say the food is OK. But, you get tired of the dining commons after a few weeks. I reduced my meal plan in part because of this and tend to stock up the fridge more often. Overall though, UCSB is an incredible school! I have yet to meet someone that has not loved their time there!
