Can anyone give me some ideas of what Athens and UGA is like? How are the people there in general? Is it diverse?

Thanks

amber2010,
My son is a freshman. We’re from NJ and when he said he was interested in UGA I was very surprised. When we visited the campus after he was accepted my wife and I were sold on UGA. He selected UGA because he wants ti be a record company CEO and is a very accomplished blues guitarist. UGA has a music business track with inTerry (he is in pre-business) and Athens is a blues center.
He’s been there for 5 weeks and loves everything about UGA and Athens. He is a season ticket holder for football, has hooked up with several musicians and has already played in Atlanta, and has friends ranging from liberal musicians to the head of a fraternity. We thought that he’d have some problems fitting in given he’s from the NE----that has not been an issue.
He is doing very well in classes and has teachers he describes as engaged, tough and interesting. His friends that are from Atlants have had him to their homes and he says UGA was a great choice for him. Hope that helps.

dgialanella,

Just wondering, did your son ever participate in a blues camp in Atlanta? My son did a week with “Chicago Joe” a few years ago and I remember a kid from NJ that was an extremely accomplished guitarist from NJ.

No…but it sounds very interesting…I’ll tell him about it…thanks…

Thanks for replying. I’ll be attending UGA in the spring as a transfer. I’m currently living in WA so I’m hoping I made the right decision.
