Hi - I know UIUC has a great reputation and is a good school. As an Illinois resident and an Army Veteran I’m eligible for free tuition. What are the top programs that UIUC is known for? What do they pour their money and all other resources into?

This is kind of a time sensitive post so any quick input is really appreciated. Thanks!

It is hard to say the school “has been pouring” resources into anything for the last few years since it has been dealing with budget cuts because of the state’s failure to increase funding due to the state’s own budget crisis (that has essentially caused about a 35% increase in tuition over the last 4 years). Nevertheless, the best funded programs are its highly ranked engineering programs because they have extra funding due to a lot of private and government research grants. Next on the list is its business college including its high ranked accounting program. In any event, all of its programs are generally good. Query: what do you mean by free tuition as I am not aware that UIUC offers free tution to veterans? Are you referring to funds you have through the GI Bill? On another note, you should be aware that honorably discharged veterans who are residents of Illinois are given a favorable factor for admission.

Hi - Yes, free tuition. Illinois has something called the Illinois Veteran’s Grant where if you are an Army Veteran with an honorable discharge or you’ve been overseas in a conflict for a certain amount of time, you are eligible for free tuition at any state supported school. It’s a great deal actually!

So, engineering and accounting seem to be big programs at UIUC. How are their Classics and International Studies departments?
