What is up with all the picky details? -_-

As an RD’er, I just started to look at the Stanford application instructions, and there seems to be… a lot.

I mean, I know I’m complaining, but for teacher recs alone, there’s like a thousand nitpicky details we have to follow! Teachers must be from two different subjects. Download teacher rec 1 and teacher rec 2 separately. Make sure your common app number is on there. Must be 9x12 envelope. Please use the mailing labels we provide. Do not fold the forms. Do not staple the pages together.

Add to that all the essays and short answers we have to do, as well as instructions on them – just looking at them makes me stressed out. All my other schools have nowhere near the level of specific instructions that Stanford has. I almost feel like they imposed so many regulations just to be able to say “Aha, this person didn’t follow that one instruction on the essays! REJECT!” or something like that.

Anyone else annoyed/frustrated about this? :P

lol, I didn’t even notice half their instructions since I applied SCEA using Common App.

Yea, but the teacher rec parts still pertain even with the common app! And for the essays, they said it shouldn’t be over 1 page, but is that single-spaced or double-spaced? All these instructions are freaking me out! :P

single spaced. and what do you mean one page? most of the essays are about 300 words only…

and yeah, i feel ya. there’s a lot of stuff :(

yeah. stanford is just …wonderful…

Don’t worry. They won’t auto-reject you for screwing something minor up (hopefully).

When you are receiving upwards of 20,000 applications, little things like these requests can make things a lot easier for them. If you have to unstaple some pages, big whoop. If they have to unstaple 20,000 pages, they rage.
