If you are in the position to visit UVa for yourself and tour the engineering school, talk to the professors, ask these questions. Sometimes a student will choose a school based on what a school is doing research in. UVa aerospace is involved in research on the scramjet. The engineering school has a new partnership with Rolls Royce…sounds like they have faith in TJ’s University :)

Students that have UVa as their top destination are not always students that can not compare with GTech or MIT. Some want what they feel is a more well rounded education. They may feel more comfortable on the campus, and don’t want to spend four years in a think tank, nor do they want their careers to head in that direction. Top employers want engineers that can think AND interact with fellow employees and clients. They do not always want cookie cutters and machines. Great engineers come out of each university…make no mistake UVa turns out some of the best engineers in the industry.
