Hahaha! Now my banner ads are all for Hilton Hotels.
I think the main reason people watch them is that there isn’t much good on TV these days so people watch what is on… While there are a couple current shows that I like, I find myself mostly watching reruns of really old shows instead…
I think most people have some guilty pleasures of some kind of "trash’ entertainment. It’s been that way for centuries - we had the penny dreadfuls, pulp fiction, comic books of old, Harlequin romances, the Twilight novels, etc All this trash TV is just the same thing in TV form. I waste time watching stupid Youtube videos so though Real Housewives, CUWTK, etc isn’t my cup of tea I can see why some people watch it.
Agree with Dolemite that to some extent people have always found ways to “turn off” their brains for a while. Is watching Kim and co. or Real Housewives or the Bachelor that different than reading a trashy romance novel? Watching the 95th baseball game of the season? Or gossiping about real people in the neighborhood?
That being said, I don’t really get what the fascination is with that family (or many other forms of “reality TV”). But I am also not a big sports fan, so I don’t share the fascination my spouse and some co-workers have with various teams and the pleasure then get when watching games, listening to sports radio, and having long discussions (these are my co-workers) about teams, players, injuries etc. I have my own “guilty pleasure” TV shows like the Amazing Race which my husband thinks are ridiculous but which I find relaxing, even if a bit mind-numbing. I have much less patience in reading material, and so much less inclined to read a romance novel than to watch the occasional “bad” TV show.
My “veg out TV” is typically Big Bang Theory or Modern Family.
Except for Kim I wouldn’t know any other Kardasian if I tripped over them. I only know her because her picture is always somewhere. Never watched the show, ever - but I watched a lot of trash TV - mostly Real Housewives. That, plus HGTV, is my guilty pleasure. I need these types of programs to be able to check out of real world for a bit.
I always thought of the Kardashians as being the 21st century equivalent of circus freaks. Some people are just drawn to it.
“Except for Kim I wouldn’t know any other Kardasian if I tripped over them.”
Are you sure you would know her , If she wasn’t being followed by the press? I have walked right by a couple of actors from TV shows I watch and not recognized them. Although DH or someone else has. I think people look different when they aren’t all made up for TV.
I’m not 100% sure but I think I would. She has a pretty unique look.

This conversation was already done … Get a load of the “Kardashians are taking over the world” comments. LOL.
I saw this meme over the internet. " In a world full of Kardashians be a Diana." (or even Kate Middleton)
Now there are those who would claim she is better than Diana but I disagree. Classy wins.
