What is your body type?

I often get frustrated because many fashions don’t look good on me that look just fine on others. Beautiful tunic length tops of any season or style look awful, as do capris. Well, it’s because I’m the long torso, short leg body type. Neither part is exaggerated or anything, it’s just enough that things don’t look quite right…add in my more pear shape and I’m going to the internet for fashion help.

I felt better when it mentioned my body type has a lower bum, I often thought it was just my genetics.

So which is yours? Maybe those stuck when one can look with tips! Scan down a little on the 2nd link for picture.

I also have a long torso and short legs. I agree with all of those tips. I’m not exactly pear-shaped, but I do gain weight in my hips and thighs first. I like to wear dresses that have a waist-defining band or seam (which can be a challenge to find since it must hit in the proper place - things are often too short-waisted for me) with a fuller skirt that hits just below my knee with a wedge heel. A straight-skirted dress with something defining the waist works well, too. Calvin Klein dresses fit me very well.

I can’t follow the no Capri pants rule. My thighs are too cellulite-y for shorts (Bermudas look terrible on me), and when it’s hot, I need something cooler than pants. I think long shorts are worse for short legs than Capri pants. And, I don’t always want to wear a dress.

I’m balanced, but vertically challenged. capris do not look good on me. Since I lost the last annoying pounds, I buy all my pants at anthropology. Pretty colors, chinos (washable), and the cuffs are made to be turned up.

I find it hard to buy flattering tops and dresses. I need some nice outfits for upcoming event.fortunately my g/f offered to shop with me, and she’s good. I really do not like shopping.

I’m also long torso short legs but I wear capris/cropped pants all the time and they look perfectly fine on me. I don’t wear tunic tops because I just don’t like them. Besides being LTSL I’m thin (and a rectangle,) so I can’t wear anything flowy or oversized. I look much better in tight fitting clothes.

I also usually wear a shoe with at least a two inch heel (casual sandals even) which make my legs look longer.

I never, ever wear shorts. They look awful on me. Agree 100% on long shorts looking awful.

I’m 5’-9" and have long legs, which was great when I was 25 and skinny, but now I’m overweight so I’m just big. :frowning: I just talked to my doctor’s nurse and she said I can wean myself off the anti-anxiety med I’ve been on since my nephew’s death. I really think that’s been making me gain weight, so I’m hoping that stopping them helps! Capri pants have always looked awful on me.

I have long legs and a short torso, but I carry all my weight in the middle. I’m likely only about 10 pounds over where I should be, but all 10 pounds are across my stomach and make everything that much harder to fit. If I wear the longer, untucked tops, my larger bust makes me look pregnant, but when I tuck shirts in, my short torso makes them look odd. Dresses are usually my friend, but even then I have a tough time finding just the right profile. My S is getting married in September and I am dreading shopping for all the clothes I need for parties in May, July, and of course, wedding weekend. As for capris, I can wear them, and shorts, too. Just not as short as I used to be able to wear.

Another long torso, short legs here - with elephant knees that demand to be covered, which makes wearing dresses a challenge as most seem to hit just above the knee these days!

I am built like a fridge. Packed, heavy, and I’ve got a lotta cool stuff.

“A very quick and easy way to tell if you have a short waist is to stand up straight, and see if you can fit two hand widths under your bust to your waist (narrowest point). If you can fit more than two hand widths you have a long waist, less than two, a short waist”.

So, yah, I can barely fit one hand, but I call BS on their “Long legs & short torso is considered ideal because long legs are more appreciated than a long waist because they can make a person look taller than they are.”

As runnersmom mentioned, when you are short waisted it gets kind squishy in there, fitting all the chubby weight into a small place. I do wear capris all the time, though I do have peasant calves and I don’t know if they look good or not. My best look, actually, is a maxi dress, cover everything. And those tunic that are out, or a sheath dress, no way with boobs is that a good look.

I tend to be an ectomorph.

The only capris I’m comfortable in looks wise, are from Chicos. They are cotton and go all the way to the ankle and can be folded up as desired. They are a looser fit. I keep them longer and wear something with a heel. Here is the current version…I unfold mine more and they aren’t as tapered as this. I agree…never, ever Bermuda shorts.

I have a balanced body but have never liked capris on me–shorts or long pants are fine but not in between. I look good in most clothing but sure wish I wasn’t cold so easily and didn’t have to wear so many layers to stay warm!

I have a balanced body, but let’s face it … I am in my late 50’s. I don’t care how well things fit, most clothes look stupid on me. Wearing clothes meant for younger women is just not my thing … but wearing clothes meant for middle-aged women is even worse. I hate shopping. I have a few things I like to wear, and I confess that not all of them look great on me. I have one dress that looks great, but I can’t wear it to everything. I have a few skirt/top outfits for work that I like. I wear shorts, but I keep them a bit longer than I used to because of the … uh … wrinkly stuff (even though I am in good shape). I sometimes wear capris, but I don’t think they look all that great on me. Mostly, I just mourn the way I looked in my 30’s … that was the decade I looked my best … in shape, smart enough to know what looked good on me, young enough to wear anything. But alas, I am now what I used to consider old.

I’m satisfied I look pretty good in most clothing and fortunately don’t particularly like things meant for younger or older folks.

I feel it’s so unfair. In my 30’s I was too self conscious to wear a bikini, now I have more self confidence but not the body to wear the bikini.

I always feel wierd with these type of posts. I wear shorts, my favorite inseam is 5". I’ll wear longer also, not too much shorter though. I wear capris but not the ones that end right below my knee but longer ones. I wear short dresses and especially skorts, I love a good skort.

I wear leggings with tunic tops, I wear workout clothes to the grocery store. I wear skinny jeans, I even will wear distressed ones.

Yup, I guess I wear it all. Stop caring, will wear what I like. Until I can’t. Lol!

I am short waisted. What a curse.

Like someone mentioned upthread, any weight gained settles in the middle, making me look more overweight than I am.

It’s impossible to buy dresses because I need petites for the torso, but regular size for the skirt length. Plus I hate tight, form fitting clothes, and that’s the style of dresses these days.

I mostly wear tops that I don’t tuck in to fool the eye into thinking my torso is longer than it is.

No one else has mentioned this. I must have short arms because all long sleeved jackets and shirts come down to my knuckles. I have to roll up the sleeves.

@kelsmom …why do you think things look stupid on you? I felt so bad reading that. Has your body changed drastically, or is it just getting older that is bothering you? It is harder in the summer seeing the wrinkly knees and crinkled skin, lines on the décolletage, etc. How can we help you feel better? Yes, we can’t dress like a 20 year old, but we don’t have to dress old either. There are wonderful, fresh, youthful choices that don’t make us a 16/61. Just read that description recently…people think you are 16 from the back until you turn around and they see 61,…haha.

@TatinG, I share your problem. Being just plain short, it’s no surprise that sleeves don’t fit me but it’s still annoying. I was delighted when 3/4 sleeves became common because many are actually wrist length on me. I don’t mind so much if I have to pay to have a winter coat tailored because it will last for years. There’s no way I’ll pay to alter casual clothes when the alteration charge may be as much as the shirt cost.

I like my body type and feed it quality fuel and buy quality clothes that make me like it even better. B-) If something does not fit the way I like it, I either do not buy it or take it to be altered.
