What is Your Favorite Holiday Drink?

I’m going to piggy-back on the Christmas menu thread and ask: What is your favorite Holiday Drink? I’ve made Pomegranate Martinis, made popular by Oprah, the last few years and everyone seems to enjoy them. Always looking for new ideas~

Diet Coke and lots of it!!

Mumm Napa.

Egg nog…no rum. I really like it.

Baileys on the rocks.

Eggnog- with or without!

Spiked eggnog but not in several years now. Just too caloric.

Red margaritas are fun. We mostly stick to white wine.

I’m trying something different this year: http://cookingstoned.tv/recipe/cranberry-sage-shrub-drinking-vinegar/ I also bought some Mead at a local place just for our crowd to try. We’re not a big drinking group, but everyone likes to try different things.

Irish cream. You can make a ton of it for cheap with various syrups and liqueurs. Doesn’t even have to be Irish. Seagram’s or Dewar’s work great.

In fact, thanks for reminding me…

What I like to drink at our big family dinner? A lot.

We don’t drink much alcohol, but we all love sparkling grape juice/cider. Even the grown-ups.
Other than that there are all kinds of teas and coffees.

Poinsettia - glass of champagne with a splash of cranberry juice.

^^Have to try that with my Mumm

I like Mumm too @Bunsen. H always buys Veuve Clicquot and I find that a little too tart.

Team Veuve Clicquot here! There’s that warm, bready yeast-iness in champagne that you don’t often get from California sparklings. (but I could be projecting just a tiny bit). (No views on the French Mumm’s).

Nonetheless, if my mom and sister decide to serve Mumm Napa or Schramsberg this Christmas, I will still be very, very happy. Just wanted to add a bit of support to harvestmoon1’s husband.

Anything I don’t have to fix, honestly.

Popular holiday beverages in my neck of the woods:

  • Egg nog
  • Rum punch
  • Hot apple cider
  • Boiled custard
  • Wassail

Years ago I made a great James Beard version of mulled red wine that included baked oranges and brandy…and thanks to the miracles of the internet, here it is!

The picture is not this recipe: there is no cinnamon and star anise.

I think mulled wine is fun to have at a party. We learned to drink glühwein in Germany. It was a standard at the Christmas markets. They didn’t include extra liquor, just red wine spices and sugar.

I usually make a cosmopolitan champagne cocktail for Christmas afternoon, pre-dinner.

This year I’m trying something new, but similar. Made a pomegranate cranberry simple syrup. Will add that to champagne with a squeeze of lime.

I like a festive cocktail.
